Laminar Flow Hoods and Biosafety Cabinets

CRX 105 offers a foundational understanding of critical equipment like laminar airflow workstations (LAFWs), biosafety cabinets (BSCs) across all classes, and compounding aseptic containment/isolator enclosures (CACIs/CAIs). The curriculum covers the principles of airflow dynamics, filtration systems, and containment strategies essential for various applications, including sterile compounding, research, and quality control. Students will learn to identify different equipment types, understand their operational modes, interpret alarm systems, and perform routine checks. The course emphasizes safety protocols, regulatory considerations, and the critical role these devices play in protecting personnel, products, and the environment. Through a blend of theoretical instruction and hands-on laboratory exercises, technicians will develop the competencies required for effective operation and basic troubleshooting.
